Samuel Eldridge was one of the several persons who came to Virginia with Justinian Cooper, a prominent emigrant, who married Anne Harrison, widow of a James Harrison. She had been Anne Cliffe. Eldridge has probably come to Virginia when Justinian Cooper first came, so he must have arrived very early. By 1750 Samuel Eldridge was patenting land in Isle of WT county in his own name. Also a certain Hugh Eldridge and a Thomas Eldridge came about the same time. Other writers have claimed that the Samuel Eldridge was the ancestor but it may have been Thomas as well. (If you did not see it) The Eldridge family of Overton County, Tennessee Among some of the important families who settled in Overton CO. TN and about who little has appeared in any of the records were three brothers names Sampson, John and Zachariah Eldridge. I also have a record of a divorce from the Legislative Acts of the first session of TN. showing Sampson Eldridge, of Overton Co., and his wife Franky, divorce act passed 12/03/1807. Does any one have any information on Sampson ELDRIDGE, his children of this marriage, or remarriage and any other children??? I have an Obadiah/Obed Eldridge that could be a child of Sampson Eldridge. Please any help will be appreciated! In connection with these three Eldridge brothers appears the name of John Cargill and Nelson Ray. The interesting thing about these three families is that they were all from Brynswick County, Virginia where they belonged to prominent old Virginia Families. John married MYRTLE MAY COWDREY on /5/8/1912, in Yellville, Marion Co, AR. John and Myrtle bore 8 children, the seventh being my mother, IDA BELLE MORRONE, nee JEFFERSON, born 9/9/25, Springfield, MO. My query is how do I go back farther to find out if my THOMAS JEFFERSON was related to THE Thomas Jefferson family, ie.uncle, cousin. I was told by my Grandfather that we were related to the same family as the president. Are there ways on the Internet to research this information? I have many more names and spouses but I have posted to you the ones that relate to my direct line and end in Amelia Co, Virginia. Thank you for this space to add my querry and I am willing to be contacted, via E-mail. I will respond.
