Using Message Boards and Mailing Lists
Most Rootsweb message board posts are copied to a mailing list. To find out which mailing list applies, scroll down to the bottom of the page on the board you are interested in. If there is a companion list, there will be a notice at the bottom of the thread list.
You need to keep in mind, though, that mailing list messages are not copied to the message boards.
What this means is that if you reply to a message board post via email, the person who posted the original message may not see your response. They would have to be subscribed to the mailing list to get your message.
Each copied message board post that you receive in email includes a link back to that post. So unless you know that the person posting on the board is also subscribed to the mailing list, you should use the link and post your response on the message board itself to make sure they know you are interested.
Note that the Genealogy.com messages boards are not mirrored to mailing lists.
